My lutherie skills

Post by BazzBass » 02 Aug 2019, 17:22

this is the limit of my skillset

My Hofner bass has light brown fret markers on the side, on a rosewood board making them invisible on any stage, dark or not.

My solution? A $2 sheet of address stickers and a hole punch. Cost? $6
Now my fretboard side sports 6mm white dots. hardest part is seperating the sticker from the backing hehe

From acorns mighty oak trees grow.

FWIW I have a phobia when it comes to side dots. The more I measure the worse they look.

for tonight, a thin strip of gaffa tape on the back of the neck will do

or get some liquid paper from the servo on the way to the gig (my second option)

I didn't know you wore nail polish. :p Good idea. I'm going to try that. I'll be able to see when my fingers line up with my dots much more accurately. ;) Hang on. If you paint the dots with glow in the dark nail polish then ....

I'm glad you had a giggle Bazz, just look out for the ice blocks mate.

Off topic. Did an acoustic gig with some mates. We all arrived on time but the first act had finished and I barely had time to tune up. :cry Mates guitar wouldn't work. 8| Just change the damn lead quick. Nup. So he borrowed a guitar from the first act. Strap too short. :hmm Ok, just hurry up. Did our three song set. What a mess. :thumbdown The guitar he borrowed didn't have any dots anywhere. Side or front. :help I tell ya. :poke: Turned out his battery was flat :banghead: :ticked:

Wow, this is a problem on one of my basses that i hadn't got around to fixing. But now, thanks to you all, I have some great low tech solutions to try first, before I send it off to a luthier.

Thanks heaps

Could it be that tinited finish has been applied over them? If yes, you can carefully scrape them with a razor blade to reveal the brighter white.
