Refinishing a Stingray neck in gloss

Post by jcburn » 02 Nov 2017, 14:56

Has anyone ever done this? I love the Stingray tone but don't like the feel of the bare necks.
What do I need to be aware of? If the neck has been sealed with some sort of oil or wax what do I need to do the remove it and seal with gloss?

Thanks in advance.

Sacrilege!!!

But if you must, just sand it back enough to get rid of the existing oil finish, then coat it in whatever glossy stuff floats your boat.

Are you modding or looking to buy and then mod? I ask because I used to own an older stingray '85 that had a gloss neck, you could just keep an eye out for one and save yourself the hassle...

Yeah I know the older ones may have gloss. I'm looking at grabbing a 4 HH or HS and glossing up.
Owned a few Stingrays in the past and the unfinished neck is why I haven't stuck with them.

I have one of each at the moment. Sabre Classic with gloss neck and Stingray with the gunstock oil. Both are good but the oil is better. Actually I do really like the Sabre neck. My current favourite, even with the gloss finish.

I have one of each too. I like them both and whichever I happen to pick up I seem to automatically think "Oh this is much better than <theotherone>"
