new bass build

Post by Peter TRB » 07 Jun 2013, 22:25

Hi Guys,
cant own up to be a builder on this but I am excited about the build. I am having a 6 string presentation bass being built by David Searle here in melbourne. He runs the guitar building course at NMIT and built the red 6 for me last year some might have seen at the Melb GTG.
So - presentation Fodera shape. I have been in contact with a number of owners of model and accepted their advise in relation to the design. Some have the bass is design for AJ so it is for sitting primarily - something I would not have necessarily noticed. I am still using the body shape with Davids design aterations.
Chambered body with some reference to Jerzy Drozd basses with a cutaway.. !9 mm on bridge, 2=5/8 at nut, 100 at 12fret ( again big), single custom aero pup, with individual offsets linked to tone control( still sorting this out but effectively can run both sides of the pick up to a range of blend options), passive( at this point) , 3 pie :hyper: ce maple neck, rosewood fboard, quilted maple ( probably 15 mm thick ) on walnut back.
Ebony bridge, bone insert pieces.
I am aiming for a non slap instrument that has a nice round bottom and sits well in jazz setting. Will keep you posted as it happens- expect by close of 2013 but not rushing. :hyper:

Hey Mods! Can we have a separate section in the forum for bass builds? They're starting to get in the way of the classifieds! :rolf:

Ok Phil . I now have some pictures to mark the beginiing of the build.

Body design on walnut which will eventually become the back of the bass. The front is going to be flamed maple and will stained that Ritter fabulous blue.

This is the walnut for the body..

This is the drawing for the bass. Not a great photo but you can see the plan.

So - 36", Presentation style single cut with David Searle mods, Aero custom P six PUP, no electronics ( at this point),58 mm at nut, 98mm at 24 fret ( around this ), color Top Ritter blue ( go to Ritter site annd See the blue Ritter Roya- i think- in gallery), chambered, sound hole feature. 44 mm thickness . So this will be a bigger instrument.

More to come> Peter

Love that bass design. I've been dreaming up a similar sort of thing for my fretless 6 string. Also love that ritter. Fantastic.

BTW, Always strikes me that Jens could do with fitting more screws to his bolt on joints... 8/
