Yes, Ivan.
Went there Friday, they didn't have anything useful in the rack but were happy to open up a brand-new stack. Ended up with 6 m of 200x50, and it's all like this.

Red enough?

I'll leave it for another week to make sure the paint is cured properly.

Lessons for next time:
1) If working with quilted or flamed tops use one of the methods floating around on the interweb thingy to bring out the grain more. This is good but could pop more.
2) Body shape - already modified for the next one. Stay tuned, not a big change but makes sense to me. So this will be a totally unique beast.

Michael

Bridge done for the 6-tring fretless.

Interesting thing happened. The bridge pieces are ever so slightly wider at the back (probably due to the bending of the base plate to accommodate the ball end hook) without correction after the fact. I based my tone block (which is about 4 mm of wenge over walnut) on the front measurement so now the bridge for the B string (I start putting them on with the C bridge)sticks out to the left maybe one mm at the ball end side. Something to keep in mind for next time since I push them together as hard as I can to get my preferred string spacing (fairly tight).

I didn't notice with Kermit because the pieces were offset due to the multi-scale approach:

All good.

Michael

Always nice when the postman drops of a bag of white-ish powder. This one's a little different.

That is all.

Almost finished (one more neck screw required - not that I don't have enough) and a little bit of work at the string guide (just some minor shaping).

Well, it's kind of a monster. 100% intonation, totally even response from the B all the way up to the F on the G string, and the action is, well, I don't think I've played anything that low. Beautiful.

Of course there are plenty of little things that need to be looked at next time (body shape is one of them, already actioned) but considering it's my first attempt at this kind of neck-body connection I am happy.

It's a Nordstrand 3b-3 pre, Ivan, with a three-way switch for the Delano pickup (series, parallel, single). LOVE IT.

And there must be something in the water at the MSOGM: another set of twins:

How cute are they? Top is the new body for the Q, bottom is for my first order. That is all.

Michael

Incredible looking bass Michael; I love the detail in the neck joint and the clean looking fingerboard.
Hope it sounds and pays as well as it looks!

Cheers Chris

Thanks, Chris,

Sounds and plays better than it looks.

Some progress with the first order - better be careful not to screw this one up, pressure is on, fairly nice book-matched top.

You can just about see the outline of the Musicman pickup there :D .

I showed the red one to my wife, she called it pornographic, I think she meant in a bad way but I can see what she was getting at and I think it's a good thing! Perhaps a more constructive way of putting it is there's a lot going on in that body, the woods, the colour, the shape, the burl etc and it's not to her tastes, but that's totally fine.

I wouldn't mind taking a tour if it's around next time I'm out east, I'd love to see that finish in person.
